Frontrow GB take on Dakar 2009
It has been a long build up... Over a year of training and preparation to be ready to compete at Dakar 2009...
...But they did it! Frontrow GB are a Desert Motorcycle Racing Team based in the UK. Over the last year we have watched in amazement as the riders trained hard on their massive KTM 690 replicas - riding these monster machines across mountains, sand dunes and arid rocky terrain for up to 15 days at a time takes courage, commitment and strength, not only of physic, but also of character. All the training paid off as finally at the end of last year the whole team headed out to South America for the beginning of the 2009 race.
The race was long and gruelling, as expected! Jon Stamper, the team's secondary rider had his dream of finishing the race plucked away as on day 5 a crash left him stuck in the desert alone for over 5 hours before the organisers could locate him and arrange a rescue.
Primary rider, Stan Watt, had a better race, although it has to be said, not without injury - he is currently recovering from a nasty knee operation that was required in order to fix some of the damage contracted during the race. The race itself, however, was very successful for Stan as he rode in a very commendable 38th place. The team are already planning for Dakar 2010, and next year Stan is aiming for a top ten place!
